Certification Exams

Through a partnership with the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the Oklahoma Ready Mixed Concrete Association (ORMCA) administers ACI Certifications. Unless otherwise noted all certifications listed below are NOT training classes and are administered in English.
Self-study is required.

Concrete Field Testing Technician (Grade 1)

An individual holding this certification has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete.

Concrete Strength Testing Technician Certification

An individual holding this certification has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of four basic ASTM laboratory procedures related to the determination of concrete compressive and flexural strength.

An individual holding this certification has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of basic field and laboratory procedures for aggregates.

An individual holding this certification has demonstrated the knowledge of and ability to properly perform five standard test methods and practices on self-consolidating concrete.

An individual holding this certification has demonstrated knowledge about and the ability to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork. A Concrete Flatwork Technician is a person who is knowledgeable about proper procedures to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork, but who lacks sufficient work experience to qualify as a Concrete Flatwork Finisher.

An individual holding this certification has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of advanced laboratory procedures for aggregates and concrete. A current certification as an ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician (Level 1) is required as a prerequisite to obtaining this certification.

Note: A Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician (Level 1) is an individual who has obtained concurrent certifications as both ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician AND ACI Aggregate Testing Technician (Level 1).

A Tilt-Up Supervisor is a person who has demonstrated proficiency in and an understanding of overall on-site administrative and technical management for producing tilt-up projects by passing the ACI written examination and meeting work experience requirements. A Tilt-Up Technician is a person who has an understanding of overall on-site administrative and technical management for producing tilt-up projects by passing the ACI written examination, but who lacks sufficient work experience to qualify as a tilt-up supervisor.

An individual holding this certification has demonstrated a basic knowledge of finishing procedures for Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finishing, including high tolerance floor construction, application of surface treatments, and silica fume concrete, and who has demonstrated skill in operating mechanized finishing equipment. A Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Technician is a person who has demonstrated a basic knowledge of finishing procedures for Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finishing, including high tolerance floor construction, application of surface treatments, and silica fume concrete, but who lacks sufficient work experience and verified skills needed to qualify as a Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher & Technician.

An individual holding this certification is qualified to inspect and record the results of concrete construction inspection based on codes and job specifications. The program covers inspection during pre-placement, placement, and post-placement operations.

An individual holding this certification has demonstrated proficiency in concrete inspection methods for transportation projects, including preplacement, placement, and post-placement operations. A Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector-in-Training is a person who has demonstrated knowledge in concrete inspection methods for transportation projects, but does not have the experience required to qualify as an ACI Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector.

An individual holding this certification has demonstrated the knowledge and experience necessary to supervise an effective concrete quality control/quality assurance program and perform duties on behalf of the Architect/Engineer in technical matters pertaining to the concrete used in a project.

Verify Individual Certification

Utilize the ACI Certified Personnel Directory to verify individual’s certification status. The Directory may also be used by specifying agencies to determine if an adequate number of certified individuals reside in regions to support requirements for certification in project specifications.
